A Black Church religious tradition established by our fore parents on the eve of emancipation, December 31, 1862.
In anticipation of President Lincoln signing the Emancipation Proclamation abolishing slavery in the Confederate territory of that time, they watched the clock. And when it struck one second past midnight, they shouted with joy that they were free at last!
